Time Budgeting
Are you getting enough sleep every night? In order to be productive, healthy, and happy, it is imperative that you get enough sleep. So, your new time budget is going to give you eight hours for sleep every night. How’s that sound?
Do you get enough time each day to exercise? Play with the kids? Relax? Watch TV? How much time each day do you need for this? How about four hours every day? Would that be enough? Well, put it into your time budget.
Wouldn’t it be great if we all spent time each day in service to others?
And wouldn’t it be great if we all spent some time each day in service to others? Volunteering for worthy causes, coaching a little league team, singing in the church choir? Of course it would and what a difference we could make for our world and community. But who has the time? You do – starting right now. Take two hours a day and put it into your time budget.
“But I’m supposed to be reading and studying so I can get that raise – just like you told me to do in the previous lessons.” You’re right, so put down one hour a day for this – right into your time budget.
Andrew Carnegie – one of the most powerful and wealthy men in America…
What am I talking about when I say, “Time Budgeting”? A little history lesson here: In 1908, a young man by the name of Napoleon Hill met with Andrew Carnegie – one of the most powerful and wealthy men in America – and Carnegie commissioned Hill to research and write “a new philosophy of success”.
Over the next 20 years, Hill interviewed over 500 of the most wealthy and powerful people in the world to find out their secrets. From these interviews, Hill wrote and published several books and became a multi-millionaire himself. His most famous book was titled, “Think and Grow Rich” – published in 1937, this is still one of the best selling success books on the market today.
Napolean Hill credited Time Budgetting for much of his own success…
One of the first interviews Hill conducted for his research was with Andrew Carnegie himself. During this interview, Carnegie introduced Hill to the concept of Time Budgeting – which Hill credited for much of his own success.
Carnegie’s daily schedule:
Here was Carnegie’s daily schedule – can you do something like this yourself?
- 8 hours a day for Sleep
- 8 hours a day for Work
- 4 hours a day for Recreation & Health
- 2 hours a day for Extra Service to Others
- 2 hours a day for Study and Prep
You do NOT need to follow Carnegie’s time budget exactly. You may need to factor in a long commute back and forth to work, for example. But the point is, Carnegie didn’t have any more time in his day than you have in yours – He just used his time productively according to a schedule. Can you do the same?
How can I come up with 8 hours for Sleep every night?
You bet you can. And I’m including many articles here that will help you prioritize your time and create “extra” room in your schedule for learning, personal growth, and fun! I’m especially intrigued by the idea of “How can I come up with a good 8 hours every night for sleep?”
You’ll be amazed how much more you can accomplish and how much stress you can remove from your life by using this 100 year old idea. You see, the days today are the same length as they were then, but we’ve managed to create so many “time saving” gadgets that we don’t seem to have a spare minute for ourselves anymore. But you can change that – starting right now – with your own Time Budget.
